Overview
Learn a variety of options for using local clays in art making, led by ceramic artist Chris Stoddard. “Wild” clays can be used as the primary material for making ceramic objects, but there are many ways to use local clay from personally significant places. This workshop will cover tips to find local clay, the steps to turn it into a usable material, and options for using clay with different properties. Participants will have hands-on access to different clays gathered from throughout the Western United States. After learning these techniques, participants can make their own wall or test pieces using wild clay from Montana. These pieces will be fired at Tinworks after the workshop.
