Program Overview
KADIST x Tinworks at Rialto
Darkened movie theaters, velvet seats, enveloping sound, and a captivated crowd: FEATURING celebrates the enduring power of the cinema through the films of visual artists who have traded the museum for the silver screen.
Presented in partnership with KADIST, and curated by Vic Brooks, each program pairs two feature films with corresponding short films from KADIST’s collection opening each screening. Spanning mystery, science fiction, comedy, documentary, and political thriller, FEATURING brings films rarely seen in Montana into conversation with one another, zooming in on the inventive cinematic worlds artists create at feature scale.
The series includes features by Eric Baudelaire, Neïl Beloufa, Meriem Bennani and Orian Barki, Cao Fei, Beatriz Santiago Muñoz, Wu Tsang, and Apichatpong Weerasethakul. The film series debuts at Tinworks at Rialto, inaugurating this multi-venue program with Vic Brooks and KADIST’s Joseph Del Pesco discussing why the feature-length format remains such a compelling pinnacle—or provocation—for many contemporary artists today.
FEATURING continues with further pairings of feature films by artists in KADIST’s collection at Upstate Films in New York’s Hudson Valley, presented with River Valley Arts Collective beginning in November 2026, before traveling to the Holiday Theater at MCA Denver in March 2027. Alongside the cinema program, a new series of in-depth interviews with participating artist-filmmakers launches this fall, published with e-flux Film Notes. From on-set anecdotes to questions of financing and distribution, the conversations get inside the creative gambles and practical realities of making the leap from the art world to the film industry.
