Ticketed performances
Thursday through Saturday, July 14-16, 7:30pm
Tinworks Art, 719 N. Ida, Bozeman, MT
Tinworks Art is thrilled to announce that Nervous Theatre, Bozeman’s local rootless, contemporary theatre company, will join us for a second season. This year, get your tickets early for the premiere of their reimagined production of The Caucasian Chalk Circle, an intensely political and deeply human story by Bertolt Brecht.
In the outbreak of war,
a mother abandons her child.
Grusha, a kitchen maid, rescues him
and embarks on a perilous journey.
Terrible is the temptation to be good...
Brecht’s play exposes the destructive power of ownership, as well as the arbitrary nature of justice. In its original Marxist context, The Caucasian Chalk Circle asks, “How do we decide who is best fit to care for the lands that we inhabit?” In their boldly contemporary rendition, Nervous Theatre redirects this question to our own community. Playful, engaging, and thought-provoking, the production asks, “Are the people in charge taking the best care?”
ABOUT NERVOUS THEATRE
NERVOUS THEATRE is a rootless theatrical collective dedicated to producing and touring new works and radically reimagined classics. Hailed by The San Diego Reader as “AMBITIOUS and FABULOUS”, Nervous Theatre aims to create experiential productions that subvert audience expectations. The company is committed to making accessible, affordable and inclusive productions that exploit the liveness of theatre and embrace the unique relationship between audience and actor.
The collective launched in 2020 with a critically acclaimed touring production of Jean Genet’s THE MAIDS, followed by the world premieres of MOMMY’S DEAD AND THEY BURIED HER IN MOSCOW (Derek Award-Winner, Edinburgh Fringe Festival) and STRANGE MATING CALLS (Tinworks Art 2021). Nervous Theatre was most recently seen in Boston with the world premiere adaptation of Samuel Beckett’s TEXTS FOR NOTHING.
